New York City on U.S. Airmails

No city in the U.S. is as important for international commerce and travel. From the dawn of the Air Mail age, New York City has been either a destination or a gateway.

Issued on July 31, 1948 this small 5 cent commemorative stamp honors the 50th anniversary of the consolidation of the 5 boroughs of New York City. Notice the planes circling a band surrounding a map of the city.


The U.S. is not the only country to commeorate New York City on an airmail stamp, look at this one from Czechoslovakia.
