Birds on U.S. Airmails

Perhaps no picture or symbol of flying is more universal than images of birds. Birds in may forms are present in airmail stamp designs.

Combining national symbol, the eagle, in flight for this airmail design gives a direct look and feel of flight. The bright blue color suggests the sky itself.

This image of two "Columbia" jays is a more subtle suggestion of flight.
