Uruguay Semi-Postal Issue of 1959

This stamp is an Airmail Semi-Postal issue. The issue has a special surcharge for national recovery. The design of the stamp is magnificent, and the engraved image is striking. The sunrise is an obvious symbol of a new era. The dam is a symbol of progress. Other than CORREO AEREO or "Air Mail" there is nothing suggesting air mail. Indeed, there were other stamps in the same semi-postal set for surface mail of the very same design.
