This is an unusaul pair of stamps. The multicolor engraved design is from a painting illustration by John James Audubon who is most often remembered for his illustrations of Nort American birds. The subject of theae stamps is the Columbia Jay.

One unusual point: The same illustration with the same color scheme is used for both the surface mail, and the Air Mail stamp. Furthermore, complete information about the artist requires two stamps to be complete.
